3:20 Introductions and Assigning of Roles
Celebrations! Mrs. Fischer had Ida B. Wells-Barnett. She was about 100 years before Rosa Parks, one of the founders of the NAACP. Mrs. Fischer had her painted on the wall at Piney Branch Elem. Mrs. Phennicie is introducing a new/different African American person to her class every day this month. 4th grade is enjoying the "Lapbooks" they are creating for Black History Month. Maker Space is up and moving in the corner of the library. "Maker Corner" going to be painted in the library and the "Lego wall."
Mrs. East is happy with the help we are asking for (Jump Rope for Heart and Evening of the Arts.)
3:35 Principal’s Report *Adopt a Shelf: 4th & 5th grade students. Reward incentive for the students (chosen by the teacher) to help out in the library. The student comes in and get the books off the carts and help shelf the books they have "adopted." *W.A.T.C.H. Dogs: Watch Dogs Dads is up and running and having a positive impact on teachers, students, and DAD's! *Budget: Site based budget. Spending less money on substitutes however, there is a shortage of subs for the whole U.S.A. Conversely, classes have to be split. The county is working on the sub issue. Didn't have the funds available for the 50/50 and getting 30 computers. Hopefully, the offer will come around again in May. Numbers after Sep 30 is deadline for getting money for the school. About 695 kids as of today. Fixed allocations is an average salary of all principals. Mrs.Fischer explained the Budget Information 2016-2017. An office assistant will be destaffed/overstaffed for school year 2017-2018.
3:49 PTCO update: STEAM auction. We have more items than last year. Spread the word to your teams to consider a teacher experience for the auction.
3:50 Superintendent’s Instructional Advisory Council- District wide to share ideas with parents. Communications and Curriculum. Being inundated with different types of social media. Discussed multi-culture night would be a nice consideration to add to Pattie. Tribes, like survivor. You would earn points for your tribe. Trying to beat out your tribes and earn positive rewards. Working with high school students as tutors and getting high school hours. The new "way" of how the curriculum is being taught. Possibly having a night for parents to come in and be taught/coached on the "new" way subjects are being taught. Liked Watch Dog programs. Principal put up a sign and wrote, "What do you want to know about?" Also, increasing diversity in parent advisory and PTCO. Possibly a spanish liaison for PTCO. PEP was discussed and explained by Mrs. Mazzenga. An idea for a fund raiser was to buy a paw print for the year and paint it on the wall. Another idea would be to "duct tape" a teacher. Students would pay so much for a foot of duct tape. All fundraiser has to be done through PTCO not the school.
