The Elementary Strings Program provides fifth grade students with the opportunity to begin learning a string instrument in a supportive, engaging environment. Through hands-on instruction, students develop instrumental technique, music literacy, creativity, and performance skills while participating in school concerts and other musical events. Students have the option of learning to play violin, viola, cello, or bass.
Fifth grade students who are interested in joining the strings program should contact their school's strings teacher.
Students may rent an instrument from the school, based on availability. All school-rented instruments require a signed instrument rental contract before the instrument can be taken home. Students may also rent instruments from a local music store. More information about instrument rentals will be shared by the school strings teacher.
Supplies needed for strings are specific to the instrument that the student plays. The strings teacher will provide this information at the beginning of the year.
Feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any questions! Sign-up forms will be coming home with our fifth grade students during the first week of school.
Strings meets during the school day twice a week for 30-45 minute lessons. No prior musical experience is required!
Students will need to rent an instrument from a music store (if your student is on a free/reduced lunch, they will be able to rent an instrument from the school). Please do not rent an instrument until September 3 so I can give more details about how/where to rent an instrument.
Students in strings will participate in 3 concerts throughout the school year. Dates will be communicated once they are scheduled.
