Frequently Asked Questions

The difference between Enrollment and Registration:

  • Registration is the process of submitting required documents and information to sign up a student for school. This typically includes filling out forms, providing proof of residency, birth certificates, immunization records, and other necessary paperwork.
  • Enrollment happens after registration is approved, officially placing the student in the school and assigning them to a class.

In short, registration is the first step, and enrollment confirms that the student is officially part of the school.

How do I register my student(s) without internet service at home?

Families without internet access or devices at home can still complete the registration process using an alternative method that is both safe and accessible.

  • Montclair Public Library: You can visit the library to use their free public computers, even if you are not a library member. Guest passes are available for computer access.
  • Pattie Elementary: You may call ahead to reserve a time to use a laptop at Pattie Elementary for registration.

For any questions about enrollment, please contact Ms. Christine Gruszkowski at 703-670-3173.

At what age can my child enroll in Kindergarten?

In the State of Virginia, children must be five years old on or before September 30 to be eligible for kindergarten.

What if I don't have my child's birth certificate?

What if I can't find my child's immunizations records?

Virginia law requires all school-age students to present proof of required immunizations. Learn more here. If you cannot locate your child's immunization records, here are some steps you can take:

  • Contact your child's current or past healthcare providers to request records of vaccinations administered.
  • Check with your child's previous school or daycare provider, if applicable.
  • Many states, including Virginia, maintain immunization registries. Check if your child's records are in the state registry, such as such as Virginia Department of Health.
  • Contact your local or state health department. They may assist in locating immunization records or provide guidance on how to proceed.

I am currently living with someone and cannot provide proof of residency?

Families who have established stable residency in the home of another adult living within the Pattie Elementary boundaries can complete an Affidavit of Residency Form.

Steps to Complete Affidavit of Residency Verification:

  1. Download the Affidavit of Residency Form (found under "Board Documents, Policies and Regulations 711-3).
  2. Both the Parent/Legal Guardian and the Prince William County Resident (the adult you are living with) must complete, sign and have the form notarized.
